Neverwinter Academy Student

The Neverwinter Academy of Magic was restored and reopened ten years ago, and since then has become the most successful institution of arcane learning in the region, even rivaling Radryn’s Mage Academy in Waterdeep. You have been studying at the Academy for several years now. Every student must complete an applied use project: they must venture beyond the academy’s walls and go on an adventure in which you must use your magic to overcome deadly obstacles and achieve your goal. You must then submit a written account of your adventure to a panel of instructors and the academy’s headmaster to be approved or declined for graduation.

Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, History
Tool Proficiences: Ink, pen, and paper
Languages: Loross and any exotic language of your choice
Equipment: A bottle of black ink, a quill, a small knife, your notes from your principles of applied magic course, a set of common clothes, a pouch with 5 Lords

Feature: Pupil

You owe 5 Lords to the academy in tuition on the thirtieth of each month. As a student at the Neverwinter Academy of Magic, you have free access to the Neverwinter Archives and can make an appointment with any of the academy’s instructors. Whenever you have more than three days of downtime in Neverwinter, you can attend a lecture. If you do, you start the next session with inspiration.

d8Personality Trait
1What better class is there to be clown of than one with potions and spells?
2Magic comes easily to some people, but not me. I make up for it with hard work and lots of study.
3I’ve always been the top of my class, so I can’t ever let anyone see me fail.
4I’m the class bully, and the class is full of wizards. I always get my way.
5I would be class president if we had a student body like I keep trying to convince the school to approve.
6I’m always the one getting into trouble around here.
7Wizards are, by nature, a nerdly lot, but even in a class full of them I stand out.
8I’m the most popular person in the academy.
d6Ideal
1Service: Knowledge should be used to serve others. (Good)
2Logic: Logic and reason show the path through the morass of our darkest passions. (Lawful)
3Free Thinking: Curiosity is more important than knowledge. (Chaotic)
4Power: Knowledge is power, and I must have it. (Evil)
5Pursuit of Knowledge: Knowledge is not good or evil. I pursue it for its own sake. (Neutral)
6Self-Improvement: The goal of a life of study is the betterment of one’s self. (Any)

1Headmaster Tarnruth has few friends, but we have an unusual rapport.
2Instructor Lightbinder believed in me when no one else did.
3Instructor Messarmos is my favorite teacher.
4Everyone else may have forgotten about Instructor Moorstag’s disappearance, but you’re going to find out what happened.
5There’s another student in my class that I kind of have a crush on.

d6Flaw
1Popularity is more important than anything.
2Most people scream and run when they see a demon. I stop and take notes on its anatomy.
3Sometimes I forget to do my homework. Or other, even more important things.
4We are the intellectual and arcane elite. Those others out there are beneath us.
5I can never pass up a good practical joke.
6I’ve been studying some dark magic on the sly. Just to know how it works, not to use it or anything. I swear.
